What Ukrainian Children Teach Us in Times of War

Ukraine Recovery Aid | 25 Aug 2025

How can one find peace when war surrounds them? A group of Ukrainian children gave us the answer – through photos full of silence, hope, and childlike strength.

In summer 2025, it became clear how much hope children can create even in the midst of war. Together with a group from the Zaporizhzhia region, we founded an online photo club. Their first theme was “My Moments of Peace.”

Moments of Peace in the Shadow of War

While sirens sounded outside and news of attacks shaped daily life, the children captured their own stories. They photographed blooming fields, the sky above their village, playing with friends, or quiet corners in their home where they felt safe.

Their images are honest – sometimes playful, sometimes thoughtful, often surprisingly calm.

  • “Maps, Fields, Homeland” – Yegor
  • “Between Pixels and Wheat Fields” – Dmytro
  • “When Everything Was Still” – Oleksandra
  • “Barefoot in Wet Grass” – Veronika
