Protection and Hope in a War Zone: Progress in Zaporizhzhia

Ukraine Recovery Aid | 21 Apr 2025

Safe education – even while war rages outside.

We are delighted to share the first visible progress of our aid project “Shelter and Trauma Support for Children in Zaporizhzhia.” Since the start of the project in January 2025, we have been working closely with the local school to provide children in a region near the front line with access to education.

Major Milestone: The Shelter is Ready

The most important achievement so far: The shelter has been fully renovated and equipped.
What was once an empty basement is now a place of safety and hope. Just 80 meters from the school building, the shelter now accommodates up to 15 children per session. Beyond functional equipment, great care was taken to create a child-friendly and calming environment: colorful wall stickers, cozy cushions, and anti-stress toys contribute to a warm and welcoming atmosphere – even in the midst of crisis.

Take a look at the impressive before-and-after photos.

A New Learning Model: Hybrid Education in a Safe Space

With the new shelter, the school can now offer a hybrid learning model – a combination of in-person and remote education. Up to 15 children can attend each session – a major step forward after nearly three years of online-only learning.

Children finally have direct contact with their teachers and classmates again – in a safe and stable environment. This new approach is not only educationally valuable, but also a crucial contribution to the children’s emotional well-being.

Gratitude and Outlook

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all donors and supporters.
This project would not have been possible without your generosity.

Help us take the next steps – every contribution makes a difference!
