A decommissioned laptop in Switzerland can mean the difference between falling behind and keeping up for a child in Ukraine.
What a donated laptop can do
In Ukraine, an entire generation is growing up in war – many children learn online or in improvised classrooms, often with far too few working devices. At the same time, schools and institutions in Switzerland regularly replace laptops and tablets that are still technically usable.
These devices can now create real opportunities: a donated laptop goes directly into a classroom, lecture hall or small learning lab in Ukraine – and enables online lessons, homework and exam preparation.
What belongs in a “digital school bag”
Through our project “Enable Education”, we collect fully functional but no-longer-needed IT equipment for schools and universities in Ukraine.
We are looking for:
- Laptops and tablets/iPads with up-to-date software (e.g. Windows 8 or newer)
- Devices with usable battery life and power adapter
- Devices without BIOS passwords or other locks
- Powerbanks, power strips and extension cables
On the ground, these devices secure online learning, homework and exam prep – and keep children and students in education despite the war.
From Swiss classrooms to partner schools in Ukraine
Donated devices go to selected partner schools and universities, including in Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv and the Kyiv region. Ukraine Recovery Aid organises collection, preparation and transport, and works with trusted partners in Ukraine to make sure each device ends up in daily classroom use.
So far, we have already delivered more than 200 laptops and tablets – every additional donation expands this impact and brings more children back into learning.
What you can do now
- Check: Are there laptops or tablets at your school / institution that will soon be retired?
- Act: Contact us before devices are dismantled or destroyed.
- Share: Forward this appeal to your IT team, school leadership or partner schools.
